I get a bit aggravated when somebody tries to take credit for something that wasn't their idea.
Well, NASCAR is infamous for acting like the only real racing there is. So if they tell you you need three checkered flags in one race, well, by golly, you get a green-and-white checkered flag. Just know that it was created to make 500-mile races (extended to provide more ad spots) interesting before the final 50 laps. Notice how other series like F1 and Indy car have rushed to follow suit. Not. They just race.
Their latest revolution? ROVALS. Wow, a road course within an oval. What a revolution! Good thing Daytona already had a road course within its 2.5-miles of high banks. I guess in annual visits to Daytona for Speedweeks the NASCAR boys never noticed the sports cars racing through the Daytona infield – for 24 hours, no less.
Does NASCAR know there's a “Speed Weeks” for motorcycles, too? They lay out an MX track right in the strip of grass between the front and pit straights. So, whaddya figure, diroavals? I know, they did run a dirt race – at Bristol, where the high banks took half the fun out of racing on dirt. Martinsville, or maybe an actual dirt track, might have been nice. *
They do exist, NASCAR. You just need to get out more.
*like the Indy Mile?
