I'm Super Excited

If you know me, or you’ve read me, you know I love Supers. Supermodifieds might be my favorite shorttrack racecar, maybe my favorite racecar of all.
They certainly are the fastest things racing on shorttracks. But they’re more than that. They border on being too much racecar for a shorttrack. One of my fondest memories covering racing was when the Boisverts talked me into driving their super. Their super surely was too much racecar for me, I gotta admit.
They’d arranged for us to get together on the asphalt oval next to the dirt track at Canaan in New Hampshire (neither track still exists, but at least they were replaced by a road course – and not a shopping plaza). The sight of me lurching around the track, any throttle applied proving to be too much, same as with the brakes, was good for laughs, from me as well as everyone else on hand.
Anyway, to see a new series, the New England Supermodified Series, they’re calling it, announce a schedule visiting some of my favorite tracks is genuinely exciting. So expect to see me at Thompson, for sure, when they race there in August and to end the season in October. That’s supers racing close enough to my home to hear them from my porch –  if I was stupid enough to stay home.
But three races at Star? I gotta make one of those. White Mountain? Oxford? Thunder Road? Supers will light ‘em all on fire. Check it out if they’re anywhere close to your neck of the woods
