I admit. I don’t watch much NASCAR these days. There’s always something better to do this time of year than sitting at home watching the “Who Paid For it This Year” Cup teams play the circle-track game.
On a recent Sunday, though, I was feeling poorly (I’ll spare you the details) so I was able to catch the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville.
If I might have chosen a track to see a race at, there’d be worse choices than Martinsville.
Martinsville encourages – well – racing. You can’t get away from your competition, you can’t “accumulate laps” like it’s the 24 Hours of Talladega or something. It’s shorttrack racing, and shorttrack racing’s what I love the most. And the race did not disappoint, what I saw of it between unscheduled pit stops of my own.
Still, a checkered flag is black and white.
